First developed with a crow's nest tree lookout in 1925, replaced by a 20' wooden tower in 1933, the present 50' steel live-in tower was built in 1953 1.5 miles east of the previous tower. Staffed every summer into the late 2000s, it is now available for emergencies. It is listed on the National Historic Lookout Register.
