SHAFER BUTTE LOOKOUT
First used in 1927 with a 2-story log cabin, the present lookout is quite unusual, being a "cab over cab". In 1958, a 10' concrete base with R-6 flat cab was constructed. Later, another R-6 flat cab was built on top of the other cab, when the first cab apparently was needed to house additional radio equipment. What stands today is a unique lookout available for emergencies, and is listed on the National Historic Lookout Register. Known lookout personnel: 1944: Lucy Schlosman.
